Backup Exec 2014 and Hyper-V

I have single Hyper-V (Windows Server 2012) host with few virtual machines. BE 2014 is installed directly on Hyper-V host. Do I need to install BE agent to virtual machines that I'm backing up? If I only do file level or completely VM restores I don't need the agent? For AD Domain Controller I need agent if I need to recover objects to AD?

Dear Symantec, I was getting error for "V-79-10000-11226 - VSS Snapshot error. The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot provider selected returned: "Unexpected provider error". Ensure that all provider services are enabled and can be started. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details. " I created a new backup job with AOFO unchecked but still getting the same error. I don't want the above exception for my backup job due to my audit issue. Can some one help me out to get rid of this.

BE12.5 does not honour selection list, cannot delete one.

We run Backup Exec 12.5 rev 2213
In the days of limited tape space we had a selection list that excluded EXPIRED directories. Now we have a selection list that backups all. But in effect the EXPIRED directories are still not backed up.
I've use BEMCMD -o251 to list all selection lists, and saw that a list called "Excludes"exists. Trying to remove this script gives return value -1.
Made some screendumps below to show more than 1000 words.
I'm out of options here... HELP!

Gee, i see a "Excludes" selection list which does not show in the GUI. What does it do?
Hm, that one explaines the erratic behaviour.

Where can I find the Scan Failures settings on the top right of the Dashboard?

Hey guys,
I've been searching the SEPM for the settings for Scan Failures, I need to exclude a group of servers from being flagged as "Scan Failures" because it's only scanning once every two months. And except from that group the whole network scans every day. Maybe someone know where it is or know what I'm looking for.
Just to be clear I'm talking about the First top left box in the dashboard, thre's a "Scan Failures" notification there, I want to exclude a group of servers from being flagged, that way it doesn't turn in to a red box with a "Security Status: Attention Needed" written on it.

Package Enable
Provide an easier, more automated way to Enable packages on FE's when moving to/from, or adding to Server Groups; instead of having to manually Enable each package and package version separately.
Suggest you create a different interface and have an ENABLE ALL, or ENABLE SELECTED feature, where you can checkbox select just the package and package versions you want Enabled.

Shadow Copy Components restore?

Hello,
I have an Exchange 2010 server that had its main production mailbox database crash Wednesday morning after a power outtage. In examining my various routes to recovery, I noticed that I have Shadow Copy Components backing up on the server as well, and there was a snapshot differential done on Tuesday night (the point we'd like to recover to in any scenario).
Long story short, restoring the mailbox to a recovery database is proving more challenging than it should (even giving Microsoft support a run for its money) and I'm wondering if I can just export all of the mail from Wednesday to today, then roll the server back via Shadow Copy Components? I inherited this environment from a previous admin who is no longer around, so I'm a bit new and I didn't want to attempt this with no knowledge before hand. I have the command to export each mailbox's mail for the wed-current timeframe (thanks again Microsoft support), and now I'm just wondering if it really should be that easy as to roll the server back to tuesday and give everyone their respective PST files.
Is there something I should double check? Any caveats? Any advice would be much appreciated here, thanks!

Symantec Embedded Database Stuck on Starting 12.1.5

Im having an odd problem.
I have done a new install of SEPM Small Business Edition 12.1.5 and getting an issue with the symantec embedded database not starting.
All it is doing is stuck at Starting and cannot do anything more,
Now the following I have tried.
Tried to stop the service, rename the sem5.log file and recreate it. cannot do it as it give me an error saying that sem5.db is used by another process
Tried to Re-installing SEPM, same issue.
Enough free space 60GB+
Looked at some other troubleshooting steps here but did not get anywhere, and to be honest at the moment I have been looking for a while so I might be overlooking something.
I have attached the scm-server-0.log and the out.log from the db folder in case it helps
Now this is a fresh install, no settings upgraded from. We did have version 11 installed but becasue I could not do a direct upgrade from 11 Enterprise to 12.1.5 SBE, I had uninstalled the old version, not bothering to keep any of the settings as I will just recreate everything from scratch as its was not much
This is on Server 2008 R2 with all updates applied
Event Viewer is not showing anything, just that The Symantec Embedded Database service hung on starting.

I found a number of SQL queries queries relating to this, but not quit one that works. This is close:

Catalog Backup Tune

Hello Experts,
We have a schedule in which full Catalog backup is happening daily and differential every 2-3 hours.
So do you suggest the same? We dont have many changes in a day. So do you really recommend that?
My understanding is if we take daily full in the morning and cumulative in night is more than sufficient.
Pls share your understaning on Catalog backup schedules and recommendation.

SEP 12.1.5 for Server 2012 R2 Standard-Bluescreen

I did try to install SEPM 12.1.5 into a new HP Server Proliant D360e with Windows Server 2012R2 Standard 64bit. While installation and configuration everything is running well until I reboot the server, it will become a blue screen and cause the server unable to bootup. I have to use HP Intelligent provisioning CD to restore the server only able to bootup. Is that any reason the SEPM cause the server blue screen?
